The Student Leadership Team at Sibley-Ocheyedan Middle School has partnered with Village Northwest Unlimited and gathered 1,215 pairs of shoes for the Soles4Souls project through VNU. The shoes will be sent to Haiti as part of VNU's and Soles4Souls relief efforts for earthquake victims. The two entities immediately committed 100,000 pairs of shoes to the victims.
As a result of the overwhelming need and incredible response from individuals and the shoe industry, the commitment was recently increased to 1.3 million pairs of shoes. "The sheer number of shoes being given from individuals and businesses is a confirmation of the giving spirit of people. Giving shoes is a simple and powerful opportunity to give. If you wear shoes, you can help," stated Daniel Hoey, director of advancement at VNU. In surrounding photos, 32 members of the team pose Tuesday morning with shoes collected for Soles4Souls. Charlie Palsrock presents Hoey with a certificate stating S-O's total number of shoes collected. Students haul boxes filled with shoes to a trailer which will carry the shipment.
